Abstract:

In 2004, the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI), is facing major concerns. The Institute's financial position is deteriorating rapidly, with a sharp decline in student registrations. The Institute has also been mired in controversies involving examination malpractices and financial mismanagement. Its outdated curriculum, severe competitive pressure from new programmes and serious differences within the Central Council, ICWAI's apex body, have contributed to ICWAI's decline. To complicate matters, a recent bill in parliament has opened the doors for government intervention. ICWAI's Central Council members are trying to figure out ways to revitalise their 60-year old organisation.
